if you look up waller dr in crittenden ky, 41030 on like microsoft live earth map it shows a road that is not there when you do the arial view, where waller road is it shows barly circle, i know it is wong because I live on the road and you can see it on microsoft live earth map that it is not there. where do you report this error to get it fixed it. Microsoft Live gets its maps from Navteq. Below is the link for reporting an area that needs updating. Another map provider is teleatlas, I've provided the link, they also allow you to say where a map needs updating.



Keep in mind, you submit a report to Navteq, they will update their maps, but providers choose at what interval to buy updates from Navteq, to keep costs down, many places only update once a year, so it could be up to a year before you might see changes to map and nav systems.

We made this loan based on information from a loan broker we had worked with for several years. The title company used a map that was out of date. Since the time of the map, a boulevard had been expanded into an expressway, which truncated the lots in question and eliminated any access to the lots. I disagree with your contentions on the title insurer. The title firm insures clear and equitable title to the property. There are no guarantees in such a title that there is access to the property. There is landlocked property all over the place which has 'clear and equitable title'. I'm guessing that you bought these properties sight unseen yourself, and were salivating at a low price. Then snapped up what you thought was a bargain, to find that you bought a real pig.

Current UFO sighting for South Californians?

Well its May 6, 2010 and I am seeing what I believe is a UFO sighting. It has appeared several nights in a row and varies getting brighter or smaller (when being viewed on same night). I understand some may say that it has to do with the weather and such but I have viewed it with binoculars and it appears to have four lights and a little red one on the side. That is all I see so there is a possibility there is more or less. It is not a plane or other aircraft from here and it stays in the same spot but from hour disappears. If you don't believe it then please don't shun this info down but I just wanted to get this out there.



If you want to keep an eye out for this shinning object, preferably with a telescope because I don't own one, I first saw it around 8:00 P.M. Living in South California, in the city Alhambra, look Northwest. So try looking North, towards where you would find the state of Washington on a map or literally would inevitably end up in Washington if you traveled forward for a really long time. I know not everyone lives near this area and if you Google Earth 2120 West Main Street, Alhambra, CA 91803; it should be west of that area (by the view you get on Google Earth).



This has taken me a while to write because I keep getting distracted by someone who was viewing it with me. I just went outside and it's gone. Completely gone in the sense that there is no shinning object nearby the place where seen. Seen: around 8 P.M. Disappearance: 9:27 P.M. For many years people have seen strange objects that defy explanation. In the 1800's in west Texas a rancher reported seeing lights out in the middle of the desert and thought it might have been some Apaches making a fire. There are heaps of fascinating lights and glows that originate from natural phenomena in the earth's atmosphere that we do not completely understand yet. If it wasn't Venus that you saw, then it may have been one of those other natural glows.

Did I see ghost? what was it?

Back in Dec 1987 I know its a long time ago ... Anyway It was about 5am on the 2nd floor of a old house that over looked Pittsburgh on Spring Hill . The house is old so old that it had a entrance for coal in the front of it . The address is 907 Haslage Ave . My Grandfather lived on the first floor and my parents and I and my 2 other brothers were sleeping on the 2nd . Now our beds would of been in the living room if it was a seperate apt when you entered the 2nd floor. my bed on the right my other brother was on the left toward my parents bedroom and my 3rd brothers bed would of been opposite of mine in the center against the opposite wall of the apt door . There was a curtain on the window and everyone was sleeping when I awoke for whatever reason and i remember bumping the wall below the window . All of a sudden i seen a white glowing figure about 5 feet tall over my bed ( Im getting chills on my arms) I watched it for a second as it was at the bottom of the bed . It then moved towards my brother who was opposite of me really slow and it looked like it had a hat on of somekind a roundish hat . I know called for my mom as she was in the doorway seeing what i saw i yelled and as I did a ghostly figure past right through my mom as she stood in the door way and another figure from my end of the bed on the right and instantly they all instantly joined in the middle of the room and flashed through the doorway (and there was a glow around the doorframe) that took you downstairs to the firstfloor where my grandfather came out into the halway and had a flashlight and was teling us to go back to bed and turn out the lights . He also saw what we saw but thought it was the lights from his apt.



Now since I was 5 back in 1975 or whatever year it was ive seen weird things in that house and being that little who would belive me. Ive seen weird lights on the ceiling no bigger then bottle cap lids that would be there night after night and my grandparents back in 75 would tell me that its a reflection from outside . Later on in life in the mid 80s before the 3 figure event that I talked about above I looked at the same ceiling same lights and there was no way that light could of got in . I got a ladder and climbed up to the ceiling and from the angles couldnt find a way to see anyway a reflection could of made it into the house to hit the ceiling at that angle.

Growing up there being about 9 or 10 when id stay there on weekeends Id hear footsteps upstairs when it was only me my grandfather and grandmother . My grandmother past away in feb 1986 my parents and us moved back in with my grandfather in Aug 1986 also becase my dad got laid off in 1985 when we moved back. Anyway sometimes it would get cold in the attic and my grandmothers old victrola would play when there was no one up on the 3rd floor. my grandfather would say that its becuase the crank didnt finish unwinding or whatever . I thought otherwise. Im almost 40 now and on the 30th of march its my b-day and I still have dreams about that place and the surrounding area . sometimes the same dream sometimes i wake up scared and chilled / sweaty . ...can u help me ? It amazes me.I mean like how did the city's get so big? Ive been looking on Google earth and it fascinates me just looking around on street view.I know that when the first colonists came to America they had allot of natural resources at their disposal.Was it just allot of hard work and determination?How did America get so big in such a short time?
Discoveries that branch out and lead to other discoveries pretty much causes everything in the world to grow exponentially. Industrial revolution played a huge roll. Immigration as well! A large percentage of the US's population are people who either immigrated or their parents immigrated there.

Also when money starts to get concentrated in one area people start to move towards the money in search for jobs, that's why city centers are always most densely populated.



Also discoveries in engineering in construction allowed for skyscrapers / multi story buildings that aid in concentrating populations in smaller areas!
Well, I'm not an American (I'm Dutch) but Americans have this thing about doing everything big or on a huge scale. Buildings, cars, motorbikes, construction projects, you name it, and they will challenge it, or if I may use the term, 'go for it'. Put short, they are (at least to me) a very ambitious and always have been. In a way, its a very challenging country where many have sought opportunity to mostly fail but at the same time become very wealthy. Americans have been heavily criticized on political issues around the world for continually doing wrong, to a point they have done wrong, based mostly on bad decisions etc, but this is nothing new, all Nations make mistakes, sometimes serious ones. But then again, only America has taken a lot of the risks to maintain peace around the world, this comes at great costs in terms of sacrifice, putting costs aside, these sacrifices are rarely ever mentioned but should be.
If my historical memory serves me correct the purchase of the 'state of Louisiana' back in 1814 or 1834 (I'm unsure) added a staggering 827,0000 square miles of territory to the United States for a meager sum of around $US15,000,000. Mind you, it was a lot of money then, but still a very good deal. It was purchased from France, as the French were keen to use those funds to fight their next war. It shows true determination to have acquired that land and it could only have been the Americans to have pulled-it-off. America didn't change size, but yes, the cities have grown. That is the result of population growth - both natural and immigration. There is a difference between city buildings in Europe and in America, Unlike Europe, Americans can buy a plot of land, design the building they want and put it up, regardless of what surrounding buildings look like. Of course, if it is too outre, neighbors might complain and the building might have to be altered. In America, the building codes used to be concerned mainly with the safe construction of a building. The exterior was up to you. That's changing in many places.How did America get so big in such a short time?
Freedom is the key. We had unlimited opportunities in the US. Governments did not interfere with progress. Natural resources help. But, look at Japan. It was basically flattened during WWII. The US introduced democratic and economic reforms, then turned the Japanese people loose. They never had any natural resources. They became a powerhouse in 50 years. It took the US about 500 years to develop.
Simple answer an abundance of land, labour (labor) and capital as well as the industrial revolution and financial gains from WW1 and WW2. Excellent entrepeneurs like Andrew Carnegie and banks who lent money on the basis of good business models rather than titles like in the UK and yes more personal liberty and freedom.

Here it is-Sorry, I answered this back at level two so it took me awhile to find.

One time I was walking down the hall and then I looked into my atrium and there was a shadow person in the shape of a black trench coat floating there with no hands, legs, or head but it was fastened where the hands, waist and everything else should have been. However, where the eyes would have been on a person, there were red glowing eyes floating above the shadow person's coat. I locked "eyes" or whatever those were with it and then I got scared (I was 11 at the time) and ran back into the hallway only to come back and there to be nothing but thin air where it was. I was about to record the audio of something, and about 4 seconds before it plays, I hear a voice with a British accent whisper, "Stab skin them". It scars the hell out of me but I can't let something like that go. I could download it to my PC but there's no point since none of you know me, you could easily say it's fake but I don't blame you.

Is this house Victorian or Edwardian?

I'm talking about my grandma's house. (I asked this question somewhere else and got 0 answers, so polls %26amp; surveys it the best for answers)

I think it's late Victorian but my mum thinks it's Edwardian.

The exact result is her house and look at the outside using the street view . Oh, yes, she's moved out of the house and it's empty now because it's very, very, very sadly getting knocked down in two weeks.. :(. Stalk her all you want, you won't find her!



Anyway, the front of the house is double fronted, door in the middle, two single sash windows to either side, a veranda, tin roof and decorative architraves around the door and windows. The original house was four rooms and a hallway, an outdoor kitchen, bathroom, laundry and toilet.



Walk through the front door, probably changed in the 60's to a porthole door, into an hallway. In the middle of the hallway, there is a hallway arch which looks victorian to me, not the wooden edwardian kind, similar to this one...

...and you can see where the chimney breast used to be, but all of them in the house were taken out in the 60's. It has no cornicing but has detailed skirting boards. Go back out of the hallway and turn right is another bedroom, same stuff, sash window, you can see where the chimney breast was, four panelled door and ceiling rose. Go down the hallway, turn left, another bedroom, sash window, four panelled door, old chimney breast, no cornicing and an un-vented ceiling rose. Turn back into the hallway and turn right into a living room, no cornicing, ceiling rose, no door, like the other rooms. Go back into the hallway and go to the end where an extension was added in the early 70's. My mum told me the kitchen, bathroom, laundry and toilet were all outside, if that helps. Then the extension connected the bathroom and kitchen to the main house.



Nothing great about the extension, just a long room. Then there's the kitchen, which has a low ceiling height, and the bathroom which which is even shorter than the kitchen. Then outside, is the laundry which has an edwardian looking door and an old fireplace. There is the outside toilet which is just a toilet and a door made out of a few boards and nails.



The whole house is built out of brick but has weatherboard at the front. It looks very similar to this house...

That is the newest Google Earth. He had 3d buildings enabled. Just download it and as you zoom in closer you'll see something that looks like bubbles, click on it and you'll have a street view. It's even on Google Maps: http://maps.google.com

I need help finding a street in France ?

My little sister is studying abroad this spring to Perpignan, France. I want to find what house she is staying in, but i am having an impossible time finding it. I speak/read zero french, so it's even harder to find. It seems as though the street doesnt even exist. (as far as i can tell on a map)

I don't think there's anything quite that complex besides Google Earth. If you're traveling in China, I would highly recommend just getting a cheap GPS unit for your car. They are incredibly helpful.

There is a software called 51ditu. It is free, and with that you can download any map of Chinese cities, but unfortunately it is in Chinese.

the other day i was given a link that provided me with a virtual tour of anywhere i wanted to see via camera but not satalite birds eye view it was up close images of my entire road step by step, this is new and not a download nor is it something u have to pay for does anyone know the name of the site it is not google earth as this only provides a birds eye view.How do i see my street virtual tour?
Google Earth does provide street view - I have it. You have to have the latest version and the street view option is in the list on the left pane which you tick and when you go into a location you see all the cameras, just double click and you are there - street view. Otherwise, use Google Street Map which obviously is street view, no camera but little yellow men which you drag to the area you want. Bear in mind though that not all UK has been covered yet. With Google Earth, though the program is installed on your computer, to use it, it actually connects to the internet of course.

I wouldnt recomend the gold coast its Crime central, its had 3 shootings in a month, better as a holiday or day trip. Brisbane has a low crime rate. The weather is mild and dry in winter but get is warm-hot and humid in Summer and its wet season is Summer so we dont get bush fores like the southern states as well as not getting heat waves. People in Brisbane are nice but just like any other city else there are the wankery type of people here. The best suburbs are on the North side of the river but the inner city part south is still fine, just as you get out south of greenslopes (suburb) it starts getting a bit bogan/trashy, My favourite suburb probably be baddington or New farm both have a cafe, alfresco dinning type feel about them, and theyre very prettyI want to know about brisbane australia please?

Im from Essex too-Maldon, I came here when i young. I grew up in Perth, and now I live on the Gold Coast which is 1 hour south of Brisbane. Its true, that no country on earth is perfect, they all have their pros and cons, it depends if the pros of Brisbane beat the pros f Essex and only you can be the judge of that as it comes down to personal preferences!! I myself thank my parents everyday for emigrating to this beautiful amazing country. The quality of life is great, as is the weather!!!



Brisbane is a great city, its not too cold in the winter and the summers are arm, and humid. I believe the inner suburbs are better to live in, as you can still be close to the city and get a feel for Brisbane life, but not be stuck out in the suburbs, try Taringa, Toowong, West end, Paddington, Spring Hill areas. The people are great and crime is low. I prefer the Gold Coast as its close to the beach and has a more laid back lifestyle, its a tourist town.

Happy 2009What is the best way to make a huge image that can be zoomed ,may be, 20 or 30 times?
First off, expect this to be a time consuming project. That said,

this is what I would do... first go to google earth, and before doing anything else, go to the tools pull-down menu... from there, click the 3D View tab, and make sure these settings are as follows:

Texture Color: True Color (32 bit)

Terrian Quality: Higher (slower)

Map Size: Large

Zoom Relation: Infinity

Then, zoom into each area as closely as possible without skewing it (it should be like you are flying in the air and looking straight down at it, not like you are standing and looking out at it). E-mail the image to yourself. Pan, repeat. Make sure each image is "shot" from the SAME distance otherwise they won't line up right when you put them together.

Next, paste each image into a large photoshop document (high DPI, large physical size) and line it up with other images the best you can. Save as a PSD that you can adjust it later if you want, but also save a JPG for a reduced file size and to flatten layers (it will still be a HUGE file).

okay so what i really want to do is go down on a road to see some houses from the front and not just the birds eye view. i want to be able to drag down to go down the road to be able to see the houses from the front. how can i do that because if i put in an address it doesn't let me drag on that street but only the next one to it, and then it won't let me turn where i want it to go.

Why would a girder bridge structure for a rail line have only one section with through girders?

A rather high rail line trestle over US75 in Plano Texas has a whole series of girder beam sections where the girders are under the rails then one section where the girders are beside the rails. The obvious reason in looking is that the clearance under the section is much higher and is it placed over the DART Rail beside the highway. But is it that much cheaper and easier to put the beams under that they couldn't do the through beam all the way? The example is here 32掳58'0.51"N 96掳43'15.71"W and on Google maps or Earth you can barely make out the shape of the shadow. What does google earth have to do with finding osama ?



You do know the google satelite images are several years old ??



It's not live satelite.



Satelites do not remain stationary over a fixed area.



They usually only have coverage time of about 10 to 20 mins, either once a day, or depending on the satelite, several times a day.



Imagine the resolution, to actually be able to see and identify a human.



While we have that resolution,,, each image would only cover several square feet.



Now imagine searching thru several million such images each and every day.



Lets look at it this way,



Afghanistan and Pakistan have 1.4 million square kilometers.



So lets just take 25% of that for the search area.



Thats 356,000 sq kiliometers to search.



Now lets say that an image with enough resolution to indentify a certain person, would cover 9 sq yards, or 18 feet by 18 feet.



You would have to seach 65 million such images, just to seach 25% of Afghanistan and Pakistan.



That is, if the satelite could actually see all of the area needed to be covered.



As mountainious as that area is, unless the satelite was looking stright down, then it couldn't see all areas, because it would be looking sideways at some areas and it would not see in some valleys and draws, because the side of the mountain would be in the way.



Also note, Osama, probally knows when the satelites fly overhead, that is not hard info to find out.



Plus you have all the caves in the area.



Plus, how hard is it to just cover your face.



While osama might be tall, you can not tell tall, if they are setting down.



It would take 7,500 people, looking at one image every 10 secs for 24 hours, to look at 65 million images.

From this and your previous questions, I'd say it's time for you to take a basic computer and internet course.
Reinstalling windows puts earlier versions of programs on your computer. You'll have to update them by downloading new versions of the programs you want to update.



Search Google for the names of the programs that don't look right.

You need to go to Windows update (Tools %26gt; Windows update) and update your machine to Service Pack 3 (SP3).



Keep going back to Windows update even when you think you are done. You have almost 10 years of updating to catch up with.



A un-updated version of XP is very insecure and is a virus and malware magnet.

No images that you see on Google Maps or even in Google Earth are old.



In Google Earth, at the bottom left of the screen, you'll be able to find the imagery date for a particular area.

Check to see if your county's Assessor has a website. Our county assessor has an amazing website where you can view an image of a street with buildings. The images are updated more frequently than Google Earth/Maps.



You can click on each property and see: owner name, property address, parcel number, last sales date/price, square footage, floorplan sketch, previous owners, and so on. Many counties across the country are creating websites like this.

Where do i find Microsoft's web-based equivalent to Google Earth?

The other day one of my students showed me a map he had found on a microsoft website, that looked just like google earth, except that he was able to get images that were much higher resolution than my normal Google Earth can get.



I know this: The site had a Windows circle emblem and a bluish color theme. The site also had the word "Virtual" in its name, such as microsoft virtual maps. It was web-based, unlike google maps. It had the navigation indicators in the upper left corner of the view.



Now whenever i try to find that site again myself, it always sends me to the stupid corporate Microsoft site that tells me everything i could ever want to know about setting up microsoft virtual maps for my own business, but it doesn't actually show me any place online to just USE THE PROGRAM!

When I use to go on Google Earth, I could get up close to the houses and look at the front of them and around the street..

I have found the place where I am going to get my puppy but I still don't know much about that place. How is that place there like? Once again stop asking people to do your homework. Call or email them AFTER the holiday hell I'd hold off until at least thursday, friday and talk with them. No one is just going to hand feed you the RIGHT breeder for you

Drainage systems could and should be added, particularly the parts of the drainage system that cannot be seen by the general public because they have been completely channelized under streets or the ground. Even if the maps of the drainage system are outdated, they still have very useful information, especially in areas that have had natural or man-made disasters. I and others wouldn't have to answer questions like does it matter if a particular canal is connected to other canals or not. An unconnected canal is not a canal. It's a holding pond or a small enclosed lake.

I recently went onto Google Earth and noticed that because all of the photos from above were new. That all the streets in my are area are invisible because I have a VERY LARGE amount of trees in my area. I need to see the streets though to use the path tool so I can find a new longer running path because I got better. I'm not too keen to make it easier for burglars to stake my house. I was shocked to see that not only the license plate number of the cars in front of my house but also my laundry hanging on the line were clearly visible. It is an invasion of privacy and potentially can endanger the ones living there. If we lived in an honest world, perhaps I would not mind so much. However given the high crime rate, google needs to be careful. If one person discovers that google street view had facilitated a burglary, he/she will sue the pants off the pair. I know I would.

Google could at least have had the courtesy to request permission. They didn't. That makes them worse than stalkers and they are doing it for financial gain. Which means they are profiting from what belongs to you. Class action suit anyone?
People are free to post their pictures of public places on the internet. And there are plenty of such photos all over the place.



I see no reason why Google should be treated any different when it comes to posting pictures of public places.



Individuals should have the right to privacy within their homes. But the public does have the right to know about public places. And there needs to be some balance between the two. I think it is just a novelty. You don't need this type of street level photography to find your way around conventional type of mapping is more than adequate. Its just a tool for people to be virtual tourists.

I think we should air on the side of caution why needlessly put peoples privacy at risk. Why not get some kind of consensus on this and regulate it if need be.

No its just a boring picture of a street , ppl dont know where I live because they have a picture of your street. I think the concern was about army barracks etc, like as if any one that way inclined to test security or make a statememnt has to google "army barrack" before they attack it!!

I think if people are so bothered about burglers etc they should be more security conscious anyway, and people who get photographed doing things that they would rather peopledidnt see then they shouldnt be doing them in the first place.

Initially, I felt it was a really fun and interesting idea. I hadn't really considered what it might be like to be caught out on camera doing something you shouldn't. People having affairs, skipping school or work or even vulnerable people (such as battered wives who have moved to a new area to escape a violent partner, or someone who is trying to escape a stalker, or a vengeful criminal etc) could be accidentally exposed.



Of course these are extreme examples. I'm sure most people caught on images are perfectly innocent!



Perhaps the idea needs tweaking to accommodate British modesty a bit!
LOL we had the camera in the village yesterday. It was a total shock to all. We are so remote, yes the scenery is beautiful but you have to drive 50 miles over mountains to get to us, from the nearest main town.

yes it is an invasion of your privacy, but when people are out and about within the public, anywhere in their home and relative and friends homes. Or out and about anywhere on vacations. wheher if the unexpected photographed person is either famous or not, that is still a terrible position to be in. When the stalking photographers, are so rude and don't even ask for permission first, like they always should ask you for permission for photographs to be taken of you. since it is a piece of you in their camera where they can steal your identity by imposing to be you always Which this is why at times you can't aviod them, except to run in the any other ways to get well away from them. and call the law people and they would sort those stalkong photographers out. So it you can be safe and feel at ease with yourself and within your life too.

So anyways, I'm a nerdy teenage girl to begin with. I've always had guy troubles because 1) The guy thinks I'm not preppy/sporty/hot/whatever enough, or 2) He thinks I'm book-smarter than him. Recently, I felt that all problems were gone when I realized that an old classmate and I were a perfect match. Well this isn't like any other crush, it's actually based on personality entirely (like seriously, entirely.) But then I just went all creepy-stalker on him and hacked his email, read them to see if there was anything about me (yeah, Narcissistic I know and plus I found nothing, and looked up his house on street view on Google Earth!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I feel like such a creep, and even worse, I found on his email he has a girl who he flirts with, is super-close to him, and is funny, really smart, blah blah blah, is his BFF, ladeeda the list goes on. Now I feel like a creep, loser, intruder, stalker, and pathetic girl who is boy-crazy. GAAAAH and I thought this time it would be different.

Don鈥檛 be ashamed that you are smart, you are not pathetic; you just have trust issues. I can understand that too, I used to get given a hard time at school it shook me up for a while and I didn鈥檛 trust many people.

MyTopo's Terrain Navigator Pro (was Maptech) can combine USGS topo maps, Aerial Photo imagery, and (with the optional US Streets Module) street display, routing, etc. Plus, unlike Google Earth, it can be run independently from the Internet, which is a big plus if you intend to use it in the field.

I'm Really Confused About Something....?

I'm looking at a Google Earth image of Rexburg, Idaho. I'm looking at an an open area surrounded by 1500 West on the west, Seagull Drive on the east, Park Street on the north, and an irrigation ditch or canal on the south. The image shows an empty field, but when turn on Google Street View it shows streets and houses in that location. What's happening? Were the houses demolished?I'm Really Confused About Something....?

Closeup pictures live all the time is impossible. Weather satellites are almost live, but they don't show small detail.



To get detail good enough to show cars requires a big lens or telescope pointing at the ground from a LOW orbit. Like 200 or 300 miles up. The low orbit means 2 things. 1, you can't hover over one spot; you are always moving rapidly over the ground. You only pass over a given spot once every few days. 2, from that close you can only see a small area at a time, maybe a hundred miles wide or whatever.



Weather satellites are in geostationary orbit, 22,000 miles up. They can hover in one place forever and see continents and large scale cloud patterns, but not small things like buildings or cars.Are there any sites that have live satellite feeds of the earth?

It shows an arial view. Some views are better than others. I've noticed that the images are not current. For my house, it shows how my backyard looked about a year ago. But it is free. I use it to help with directions. I had installed it for free. It was kinda fun seeing things I never saw, and you can zoom in on places, and yes you can see just the top views of houses, zooming in as much as being able to distinguish types of cars,gardens, pools. I found it useful to locate streets and unmarked streets the map quest did not show. And to visually see what the area looked like, instead of a drawing. In USA maybe, but i'll answer no. I mean, not with google earth ! But google and microsoft have another way to know things about your private life : cookies.

I recently learned about google maps option of street view for satellite imagery. I could see houses in close up detail from all angles of the street, aswell as people in close up detail from multiple angles walking down the street. My question is what are the highest level production of satellites capable of viewing and from what distances/clarity at night time? Who owns them? Is there such thing as long distance thermal imaging? Long distance X-Ray? Long distance land Sonar? The answer is that the answer is classified. Keep in mind tho, that back when the highest resolution that civilian sat imagery was 5 meters, governments were viewing with todays 2 meter resolution or better. So in general, the civilian market is restricted to tech several generations behind that which is available to governments. The limit is imposed for "reasons of national security".



Who owns them?



Governments and private companies / corporations under contract with the government.



Is there such thing as long distance thermal imaging?



Yes, but it it's resolution is not nearly as good as visible spectrum imaging. Commonly used in meteorology and astronomy.



Long distance X-Ray?



Yes, but they are not used for terrestrial viewing. They are used in astronomy to view the xrays emitted by extraterrestrial bodies (such as stars and black holes).



Long distance land Sonar?



No possible, satellites are positioned in orbit beyond our atmosphere and sound cannot be transmitted without a medium. Modern satellites use radar instead of sound for purposes such as mapping and observing weather.

The high resolution top down images featured on google earth are actually composed using a variety of methods including (but not limited to) airplanes, government satellites, and civilian satellites.



Google initially purchased their satellite imagery from sources such as microsoft (terraserver), noaa, nasa, and the dod. They didnt not capture it all by themselves. I believe google actually took over terraserver and thereby gained all their existing satellite data.
Google Street View is done by cars with special cameras. From the Ground. Most of Google Earth is actually done by aircraft, not by satellites.



Most optical Earth observation satellites are watching the Earth directly below them, and rarely are better than 1 meter resolution. The best I am aware of is 50 cm resolution for special products.



Thermal imaging is observing in Infrared(IR), which is also done by optical satellites. Most such satellites actually use IR, because you can see differences in vegetation and temperature that way. X Ray is not used, since most things on Earth don't emit X-Ray radiation. Sonar doesn't work in space, since sound requires a medium to travel through, and can't pass the vacuum. What is used are radar satellites, which are better than optical because clouds don't disturb them.



Satellite Cameras that rely on visible light (what your eyes can see), can't work at night, only IR and Radar works then. Most satellites that observe things in visible light are in sun-synchronous orbit, which means they pass all objects at the same local times, for example early in the morning and late in the evening.What are Satellites capabilities for zooming close up to the earth at night?
Street view is not from satellites. It's from a van that was driving along those streets. The hi-rez top-down photos are not from satellites either, they're from planes.



Satellites owned by the military are very good and can detect things down to 10 cm in size, but any Information about them is classified. I have no idea about the night capabilities of satellites, sorry.

Whenever I get closer and closer to a location,the angle of the camera will level out a street view.I hate this! Is there any way to just keep it like the old way?Google Earth question..?

No, just remember you can only zoom in so far, then the picture will start to tilt.

Is there a thing on the internet somewhere that you can like do the street view thing but actually drive along the roads? like a car simulator or something.Google Earth/Maps effect car simulator?
No there isn't I'm afraid, at least not at the moment. All they are at present are a series of photographs that overlap going up a road.



As Arfen says there is only a flight simulator in Google Earth where you can either fly a F16 jet fighter or a small SR22 mono plane.Google Earth/Maps effect car simulator?

My sister said she knows the owner and that it's a recording studio and band practice area, but she didn't tell me the address, just the general area, so I looked up street-view on Google Earth to get the area and found a stand-offish building, and asked her if it was 277 Falls Road and she said yes.
