Does anyone know what that search tool is in Google?

last year, i heard my friend tell me that google has this new feature where you search a city and it gives you a 3D view of the city, just like you're walking in the streets. Its not google earth where its a birds eye's view. Does anyone know what that feature is called?Does anyone know what that search tool is in Google?
perhaps google maps?
it's called google 'street view', but it's in it's early stages - they've started photographing large cities in the united states by driving round in cars that have a 360 degree camera on top:

the above link is to one of the streets outside of central park in new york, and allows you to spin the view 360 degrees or use the underlying map to move along the street(s).

as i say, it's a new thing so coverage is patchy - if an area has been photographed there will be a 'street view' button alongside the satellite/map/hybrid buttons in google maps:

google's own help page for streetview is:

visiting their headquarters in streetview is interesting:

if you get bored with streetview, try these links:
