A god-like figure has been spotted on Google Street View, hovering midair above a lake in Quarten, Switzerland.



Although the image, discovered by the Gawker blog, is most likely to be the result of some sort of light distortion or lens flare, blogger Max Read has questioned whether it might have more mysterious origins.



"Is it something on the camera lens? Or is it maybe... God and His only begotten Son?



"And who's to say that God isn't 'something on the lens', in some kind of a cosmic, metaphysical sense?" he writes.



While Street View cameras have captured numerous bizarre images over the past few years, most of these have involved real people doing something out of the ordinary - like sleeping in a gutter or answering the call of nature.



The most shocking of these was the recent discovery of dead bodies captured by StreetView cameras in Brazil.



But last decade it was a series of inexplicable images captured by Google Earth that piqued the interest of bloggers.



In 2006 Google Earth spotters reported the presence of hovering cars in Perth and not long after, an unusual man-made landscape in a remote part of China was discovered, which appeared to be a model of a larger piece of territory complete with snow-topped mountains, streams and valleys.



Google declined to comment on the source of the Swiss lake apparition.

Why would god choose to reveal himself on Google street view? And why in Switzerland?

I thought God preferred to show up on Bing maps, but maybe He does Google, too. But I did not see it, so I can't say. Maybe Google is a holy site.
