Google earth?- arrows? how can i roam around area myself?

hi everyone, i am looking on google earth and just want to roam around my village. The other day i was doing so, there were white arrows on the road that you could just click on and you would end up further down the road and go left/right wherever you wanted by yourself. I cant seem to find where to get these arrows from on the google earth street view? if you know what i mean lol. thanks guys :))Google earth?- arrows? how can i roam around area myself?
It's because you are using Street View.

Either use the Satellite or Google Earth mode.

http://maps.google.co.uk/

When you first pull it up it's just in the ordinary Road Map mode.

Up in the right hand corner you will see a Satellite Mode icon

Now you can either use that mode or if you place your cursor over that icon

a Google Earth icon will appear. Click on that and it will change to Google Earth.

If you haven't got it, the first time you go to use it, it will ask you to install a plug in

so you can run Google Earth.Google earth?- arrows? how can i roam around area myself?
On top of the zoom bar there is a little man. Click and hold then drag him to the street you want to start from.
