Why are only certain areas of the world covered through street view on google earth?

like some countries aren't covered.



all of america is of course. same with japan, the uk... some countries are not though. i checked and ireland isn't... neighther is russia.Why are only certain areas of the world covered through street view on google earth?
It takes a very long time to drive a vehicle around with very expensive equipment to gather all of those images.
@Bill Sargent. Yeah but All of Japan is covered except for the Shikoku region and parts of Tohoku region (the parts of Tohoku regoin not covered: Iwate, Aomori, and Akita)

Why are only certain areas of the world covered through street view on google earth?
Because not every country is willing to allow google to spy on its people. There are different privacy laws in different countries. It took awhile before we were able to get it here in Sweden. A lot of people seem upset about it too. I like it though.



Also, it takes time. I don't know if you're aware that streetview is done by placing cameras on car rooftops and people driving around taking zillions of pictures. It takes a lot of time to map out a country that way.Why are only certain areas of the world covered through street view on google earth?
It seems this question has been answered but I just had to say that there is some incredibly funny pictures to be found on Google Earth via Street View.
well how would you like to be tasked with taking the picture of every street in the world?
