How does google earth get their streetview images?

For aerial views I know its satellites but what about street view.How does google earth get their streetview images?
Google Street View imagery is taken from cameras mounted on top of a car which is driven all over certain locations. These images are then placed into Google Maps and Google Earth.How does google earth get their streetview images?
