I can't get street view today. I was using it the other day but I cannot recover it by selecting anything in the 'layers' options - thanks for reading

The area that you are looking at does not have a streetview. Return to the same area that did provide streetview and the option should be available.
streetview requires that special vehicle with camera equipment to drive through the area and then it gets processed to be offered on the internet
if one of those streetview vehicles never went through the area that you are looking at then that feature would not be available.
